Marvelous Marbled Mugs

$35.00

These mugs are crafted using the neriage tradition, a pottery technique that involves coloring white clay and then combining (Neri) and pressing (Age) it into a single slab. From this uniquely colored slab, the mugs are carefully shaped and then finished through standard stoneware processes, including drying, firing, and glazing. This method results in distinct, layered patterns that highlight the natural beauty of the clay while maintaining durability and functionality typical of high-quality stoneware.

The back story: These mugs were created during a heat wave here in Oregon. Since my studio is outside, my work is more sensitive to weather conditions. Everything I produced during that short heatwave gave me trouble. Handles were among the most difficult. Therefore, I decided these mugs didn’t want handles anywhy. Besides, If you are anything like me, you enjoy the warmth of the hot drink and don’t use the handles much.
